This is really nice, the lanterns in this make for excellent contrast with the calmness of the water. Perfect balance was achieved here, for me anyways. Great capture!

seeing as you asked for a critique, and this is just me asking, but wouldn't it be better with a crop according to the rule of thirds?? just asking... it's an amazing shot, and i can only imagine what that must have looked like being there....

thanks for the comment!!!
yeah, this is uncropped. i'm shooting super wide and i actually wanted it to be more panoramic but i didn't want to lose too much sky from taking off the top (not completely night yet and also the distortion makes the clouds pointing toward the horizon) and i liked how dark the water gets (adds contrast to the lanterns) so i didn't want to take too much off the bottom. i suppose for the rule of thirds to work, i should take off some of the sky... any suggestions?

just below the reflection of the bottom candle. you crop it there and it would make a huge difference. there's a reason why the rule works, cut it, and have a look. see if it makes a difference.

oh, and if i have to be nit picking, there's 2 'spots', right in the centre of the pic, small, but once you notice them, it's hard to ignore them. they gotta go dude!!! :P

Beautiful!
Need to get those books and read again! I always saw that clouds went a straight line when I had read them the first time. :P
What are those two lights in the air?

the two dots are "floating" lanterns. the heat from candles makes mini-hot air balloons. sadly, these types of lanterns are now banned, due to safety. i think these are EVEN MORE AMAZING than the water floating lanterns but i'd have to go to a different country to see them. here's an example: [link]

and yessssss! the dark tower changed my life!

Maybe I have to travel somewhere in the future. :D
